NOT A WONDERFUL WORLD
From: "Mark Price" <MEPr@ilnk.com> Pastor Dick - When I read your review of this song, I wondered if you had really listened to the words. Isn't it about "whatsoever is good.. noble.. praiseworthy?" It gives credit to God, "Blessed day and sacred night." It rejoices in friendship, "I see friends shaking hands, saying, 'how do you do?' They're really saying, 'I love you.'" It expresses wonder at the beauty of creation, "I see trees of green, red roses too... ...skies of blue and clouds of white, the colours of the rainbow... ...I hear babies crie, I watch them grow... And I think to myself, what a wonderful world." If you would like to review all of the lyrics, they can be found at http://nyccera.simplenet.com/lyrics/what_a_wonderful_world. To me, this song is about awe and wonder towards created, beautiful things, and a world which the writer knew was greater than he could understand. M. Price
From: Pastor Dick <dick@negativland.com> Dear Mr. Price, Thank you for mentioning God's name, but He would hardly approve of this song. Prettiness is all fine and good, but this song only mentions a small part of God's plan for mankind, and conveniently avoids the rest. Of course, God deserves credit and demands thanks for the beauty that surrounds us. He tells us in His Word, however, that these things are temporary, meaning that everything this song glorifies will ultimately be burned. I did go back and review the lyrics, thanks. They'd almost be comical if they weren't so blasphemous: "I hear babies crying, I watch them grow They'll learn much more than I'll ever know...." Mark God's words, all worldly knowledge will seem trivial when God at long last shows us His wrath. It is only through His mercy that he allows mankind to say such things and get away with it. Sure, it's nice to be nice, but if you find yourself standing before the judgment throne, I can promise you God will have more pointed questions than "How do you do?"
